MELBOURNE four-piece Jetty Road pick up most of their fans at gigs.

I stumbled across them at Tamworth's Tudor Hotel this year and discovered an infectious pop-country act most certainly on the rise.

They were a breath of fresh air in the searing heat, reeling out original pop-country gems with sweet harmonies from identical twin sisters Lee and Paula Bowman, guitarist and Lee's partner Julian Sammut and on piano accordion, ganjo and harmonica, Simon Ross.

The group had all been to school together on the Victorian coast near east Gippsland but only formed in 2004. The band are named after the street on which the Bowmans grew up.

Last year was Jetty Road's second visit to Tamworth after launching there in 2005.

Big Brother housemate David Graham was also an early convert to the band before he shot to fame as the gay Queensland farmer and wore a Jetty Road T-shirt on the show.

"He was lovely, he'd bought a CD the year before and wanted a T-shirt but was in a hurry," Lee Bowman says. "It was good that he was one of the more morally sound people on the show."

When Jetty Road head north this week for shows in Sydney and Newcastle they will be promoting their album, Full Circle, named in honour of their early days.

"The first song we wrote together, Heart and Soul, was kind of a country song," Lee says. "Then people were pushing us in more of a rock direction, but when it came down to recording, we realised that we had started in the right place."

Jetty Road, Thursday, September 14, Hexham Bowling Club, $15. Door 8pm.
