LAKE Macquarie City Council will rebuild the once-popular Booragul jetty.
The jetty was closed to the public two years ago as it was deemed unsafe. The new structure will be 46 metres long and two metres wide.Council community planning manager Rob Oerlemans said the jetty was an important entry into Booragul for the boating community."It provides a link for cruise boats in Lake Macquarie to stop and attend the art gallery and Awaba House as part of their visit," he said. Lake Mayor Greg Piper said the jetty was a significant piece of infrastructure for tourism.Council staff have prepared jetty design plans.Mr Oerlemans said tenders to build it were likely to be called within months. The Department of Lands has offered the council a licence to authorise using the lake bed under the proposed jetty, which is Crown land.
